What happens now? Next month should still see the start of 2 years of negotiations to leave the EU, unless of course Parliament feels brave enough to go against the will of the people after the Supreme Court ruling. It would not be the first time that has happened of course but it will be the first time following a referendum result.

If it does go ahead however there will be lots of hype/threats from both sides of the EU camp. Leave and remain will be with us for a long time to come with each side of the EU debate trying to get the upper hand. However, one thing is almost certain, if Brexit does finally get triggered by Mrs May the EU and the UK must then find a way to co-exist. The UK will still be in Europe after all. Behind the scenes there will be experienced diplomats doing the real work in getting a working relationship going.

At this point it is worth remembering that many British citizens retired to Spain long before the UK joined the EU. Costa Difference Ltd are of course in the perfect position to ensure that anyone wanting to retire to Spain within the next few years can do so with ease. Nothing in the UK – EU negotiations is going to affect the registration process here in Spain for new residents on Park La Posada and Paradise Park. This is because it is quite normal here in Spain to be registered as a resident when living on a fully residential open all year park. Not so easy for those living on joint camping/mobile home parks.

Once we register you as a resident here in Spain everything is taken care of. It is the level of service on offer that makes 5* residential mobile home parks working with Costa Difference Ltd so perfect. It is a one stop process, and to prove a point we have in the past registered a Canadian as a resident here in Spain, and of course Canada is not in the EU. It is also worth pointing out that buying a mobile home is easier than buying a car here in Spain, and selling one is just as easy. We take care of all the paperwork.

Ex-Pat: Patrick, otherwise known as Ex-Pat on the park is a leading light when it comes to trying something different here in Spain. He loves nothing more than to try anything Spanish. His latest experience however was beyond his wildest dreams. He went to the village of Los Coralles one day to meet up with an old friend who was doing a tour of Andalucia in his motorhome as part of a holiday. They met at a very Spanish hotel just outside the village. The hotel is situated right next door to a horse riding school. Not just any old horse riding school but a pure breed show horse training school.

Once in the bar he was asked by the owner if he has ever ridden a horse? “no” he replied and that was it. In less than half an hour later he was in the horse training area on top of a magnificent white horse. It was then that he found out that in Spain the reigns are more for show than telling the horse what to do. The horse responds to signals made by the knees, legs and ankles. Heart pumping, he did as he was told. Press the right knee in, Two taps with both ankles and so on. “Wow” was all he could say as he drifted slowly around the training area.

For any grownups or grandchildren visiting the Antequera area who would love to sit on top of a horse then there is good news. The Lobo Park (Wolf Park) in Antequera has horses as well. You are sat on top of the horse and then walked around the perimeter of the park. Ex-Pat of course told everyone in the bar that night that he could now ride a Spanish horse like an expert. That was how we got to hear about it.

EU Health card: Right after the New Year a team member had to return to the UK in a hurry for family reasons. Going from 16 degs in Spain to 2 degs in the UK soon took its toll and a very heavy cold soon developed. Thanks to the local pharmacy he was advised what to take in combination and as a result his sore throat, cough, blocked nose and temperature slowly went. He was however left with one problem; his left sinus area was swollen and very painful. The pharmacist then told him to go and see a doctor.

Armed with his Spanish issued EU health card (all residents registered in Spain are issued with one) he was not worried about not being registered with a doctor in the UK. So, off to the local hospital he went. At the A & E department they told him to go into town and use the Boots NHS walk in centre instead. OK no problem. He went and three hours later he was seen by a doctor.

Now the crazy part. The first five minutes with the doctor was completely used up with him getting a lecture on not wasting NHS time and resources. A full five minutes. When the reply was, “the Pharmacist told me to see a doctor” it made no difference. The doctor said it was simply the tail end of a very bad cold and nothing more. In short, the doctor had no intention of doing anything.

Not happy at all with the doctor’s attitude (and lecture), the team member told the doctor he should at least take a look saying that he had not waited three hours to see him for nothing. So, to keep the peace the doctor did just that and yes, he found the problem.  A prescription soon followed. The Pharmacist was right.

NOW to the reason why this is in the newsletter. We have already said that the team member was using a Spanish issued EU health card. Despite presenting it on two occasions (in the hospital and in Boots) nobody took a blind bit of notice of it which meant his treatment was given free of charge, Spain had nothing to pay to the NHS. In Spain if it was the other way around he would most definitely need to produce his passport and his UK EU health card to get treated and he would only have had to wait about 20 minutes to see a doctor. It would have been a totally different experience,

NEC caravan show: This show inside the NEC in Birmingham is one of the best indoor shows in the UK and once again we will be sending Martin to attend on Friday the 24th of Feb until Sunday the 26th of Feb. Like last year he will be at the Willerby mobile home display area to meet visitors and answer all their questions about the lifestyle on the parks in Spain. The show runs all week but Martin will only be there for those 3 days over the weekend.

If you want to meet Martin in person and ask him all your questions simply go to the Willerby mobile homes display area and ask for him by name. This year he will have a walkie talkie so the girls at reception will locate him very easily. He will only be there during Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Last year he met lots of newsletter subscribers in person which was great. He had great fun using the display homes as his office as he explained all there is to know about retiring to Spain. At one point he had eight people in a home all asking questions and just like the Park Lifestyle he was describing two couples went on to become friends afterwards.

Spanish you will hear: Living in real Spain is one huge part of the retirement lifestyle (it is not all about park life), so why not let us help you in advance to understand a few words that the residents hear all the time when they venture into real Spain, which as you already know begins as soon as they leave the park.

The phrase this month is one you could well need in any bar or restaurant. Where is the bathroom? – ¿Dónde está el baño? – (dohn days tah  el  ban yoh)? The person will reply in Spanish of course but almost certainly point as well. Your pronunciation will give away the fact you are not Spanish. Not important now because you know which direction to go in order to find the toilets.

>>> The lifestyle is great so why not try and say a few words in Spanish <<<

Park Lodge Homes: The first one has now arrived on Park La Posada arriving on the 16th of January and a picture of it arriving was posted onto our Facebook page. For us it is great news because we can now show visitors the Park Lodge concept on both parks. Every visitor will now get to see the difference between a quality Mobile Home built in the UK and a Park Lodge Home built in Spain. Because the Park Lodge Home only needs to be transported from Alicante it means that more money spent goes into the quality of the home itself.

Park Lodge Homes are built to a design chosen by you. Two beds, two baths. One huge bedroom home. Centre lounge with bedrooms each end. The options are endless. For more information on the Park Lodge Home concept visit . The other fantastic fact about Park Lodge Homes is that they will never look old. You can paint them every five years and they will look as good as new. The design will never date either. Visitors to both parks will see what we mean now.

For 2017 we are offering dedicated £79 per person four day / three night inspection visits to Alicante to fully appreciate the concept. During the visit, you will be shown the factory, the materials used in the build of the homes as well as some finished examples that are installed on Paradise Park near Albatera. You will be able to see for yourself the real quality that Park Lodge Homes offers.

Now to an important piece of information. Buying a new UK manufactured mobile home in 3 years’ time after Brexit might involve an import tariff being added to the price of the home in the short term as each side waits for the other side to blink. We are ready for that and have ideas up our sleeve. That is why we work closely with Willerby Mobile Homes in the UK. They are very supportive of initiatives and their top end homes such as the Aspen, Linear and Vogue are perfect for the two residential parks. We will always find a way to get homes of that quality onto either park.

However, custom built Park Lodge Homes will not be affected in any way by Brexit. They are designed by you and then built in Spain which is in the EU of course. That is why Costa Difference Ltd is developing the Park Lodge Concept with Alhambra Homes as the ultimate in terms of quality, value and choice. We have our own design team in place with an exclusive contract with Alhambra Homes. Park Home Lodges could well be the future post Brexit. It is a working partnership designed to produce the ultimate in Park Home living in Spain.

Finally: The first show home of the year is about to arrive on Park La Posada. It is a brand-new 2017 Willerby Linear. A quality 40 x 13 home that will go on sale on the park £8000 cheaper than ordering a new one to be manufactured and then transported to the park. It offers real savings because effectively it has been transported to Spain for free.

What makes this home special as well however is that it was the first home to be shipped from the UK by us as a company from start to finish. On the 1st of Jan 2017, a new team member called Ron joined us. His previous experience was in the shipping/export business in the car industry. With his knowledge and experience he set about dealing with all our transportation requirements.  With everything he has put in place we can now transport mobile homes from the UK to Spain, Spain to UK and Spain to Spain. We now have mobile home transporters in both the UK and Spain that can transport any single unit mobile home sized up to 44 x 14.

The Willerby Linear show home transported by us from the UK is closely followed by a client’s Carnaby Oakdale which came from a park in Yorkshire. Relocating quality homes from parks in the UK to parks in Spain makes sense if the home is only a few years old. More and more people are doing just that once they see that the parks in Spain are not only quality but are open all year round. Relocating a home costs less than the loss that would be incurred if selling it in the UK first and then buying a new mobile home inSpain. A lot less.

As always, many thanks for taking the time to read all this. We hope you have found some information worthwhile and our take on life here in Spain interesting.

To plan your park lifestyle visit, why not call us using our **free phone** Inspection Visit hotline number 0800 772 3980. Derick, Steve and Martin are here to take your call from 9am to 10pm UK time 7 days a week.
