A great question asked recently: What happens if the UK votes to leave the EU in the planned referendum? That was a perfect question for us and we found the answer to it in Switzerland. Countries that have not joined the EU but are in located in Europe proper operate using a series of bilateral treaties between the country concerned and the EU parliament.

Switzerland is just that, not in the EU itself but has treaties in place and to make the point there are many Swiss residents living and registered here in Spain despite the fact that Switzerland is not a full member of the EU. British residents will live and be registered here in Spain in exactly the same way as they are now which means the referendum should make no difference at all to the way of life here no matter what the result is.

Lifestyle: Each month we try to give readers a little lifestyle information from pets to cars and a lot more besides. This month it is all about getting here to start your new life. One new resident arrived only this week by car which reminded us that we should really tell you just how easy it is should you prefer to sail round France rather than drive through it.
There are two ports in Spain that have direct ferry links from the UK, Santander and Bilbao. From either port in northern Spain to the park in Andalucia it is motorway all the way. An easy journey thanks to the very modern motorway network system here in Spain. Better still is that there is only one stretch that is a toll road unlike in France where it is all toll roads.
We normally suggest stopping around Madrid for a night to break up the journey. We say around Madrid because there is no need to go all the way into the city. There are lots of great value hotels close to the motorway just before or just after Madrid itself. By stopping it means new residents can then arrive at the park in the afternoon giving them time to quickly settle in and then relax after their journey. A cool beer or a nice glass of wine in the evening whilst meeting some of the residents for the first time will soon make you feel at home.

Spanish you will hear: Living in real Spain is one huge part of the retirement lifestyle (it is not all about park life) so why not let us help you in advance to understand a few words that the residents hear all the time when they venture into real Spain which as you already know begins as soon as they leave the park.
For this month the chosen word is vale pronounced baalee .

You will hear this word a lot. It means OK. So, after asking for a beer or a coffee in a bar in the village, in Spanish, and the person serving you then says vale as he turns to leave you will know you have a drink on its way.

Spring, the best time of year: The parks come alive this time of year thanks to lovely warm sunny days and the fact that it is not too hot at any time. Owners who are using their mobile homes for holidays until they retire will soon be turning up to enjoy their Easter holiday.

Getting back into the swing of things will be very easy for them as they already know a lot of people who are living here full time and they will enjoy catching up. The other good thing is that their house will be in perfect order for them when they arrive with everything switched on connected.
>>> Easter is known as Semana Santa in Spain and lasts a week with many parades <<<

Finally: From the 1st of April Costa Difference Ltd will be changing roles slightly to reflect that we are now the only company in Spain solely representing dedicated residential retirement parks on the Costa del Sol. The change in roles means we are now focused more on being park and lifestyle ambassadors rather than mobile home sales agents. Sandie, Malcolm and Sue our representatives who live on the parks make the change in direction very easy for us.
A useful by-product of the change is that we will be replacing the standard three day two night dedicated inspection visits we currently offer.
These are now going to be replaced by much more flexible Lifestyle Tours that will be 100% life in Spain related and not sales related. Perfect for anyone who wants to learn all about the way of life and the local area we call real Spain .
Each lifestyle tour will be different. You might be lucky and share the experience with others who have booked at the same time or simply soak up the atmosphere with your guide during the days. The cost of a lifestyle tour will be 25 per person per night to include airport transfers as well as hotel accommodation in the centre of Antequera.
The lifestyle tour can be over a 2, 3 or even a 4 night stay in Antequera, the choice is yours. For anyone wishing to stay longer we suggest combining a lifestyle tour with a few days on holiday in Malaga, Torremolinos or Benalmadena with the extra night s hotel accommodation being booked and paid for direct. We can help by sending links to the best hotel deals we can find for the extra days you are contemplating. Staying longer does not affect the airport transfers; you will be collected from the resort and taken to the airport at the end of your stay.
To plan your lifestyle tour first check out the flights available from your local airport and then call Derick in the UK office on 0117 318 2188 who will check first that everything needed here in Spain is available plus he can also get Martin to help anyone who would like an extended visit with hotel suggestions and up to date prices in the resorts.
Planning visits this way means you can stay for as long or as short as you wish taking advantage of the flight deals you can find.
