The pros and cons when living in a mobile home in Spain

We are one of the few companies to offer encouragement to do the homework first before considering making a purchase and embarking on a complete life style change as well. This is done via email brochures and newsletters. Short inspection visits such as the type we offer are great "foot in the door to learning the facts" opportunities and they should be treated as such when actually on a visit. We always say "leave your cheque book at home" at this stage. Inspection visits allow first impressions regarding the area and of course the parks but that is all. If following a visit you are left with a positive impression we then suggest you deal with all the pros and cons issues that we are going to highlight here on this web page for you.

Living in Spain on a mobile home park is great but does not suit everybody

If retiring to Spain is still your dream after visiting the area and parks then we strongly recommend you go through all the information on this page bit by bit. We say moving to Spain in not for everyone for a reason. If living on a mobile home in Spain was perfect for everyone then there would be very few resale mobile homes for sale. As things stand at the moment, on quality parks there are about 10% for sale (which is normal due to many different factors) and on some parks and camp sites the percentage of homes for sale is a lot higher.

So what is the main factor that makes people put their mobile homes up for sale?

In short the best answer is that having lived on the park for a few years many have the confidence to live amongst the Spanish in the villages close by or down near the coast. Very few people sell up in order to move back to the UK. It does happen of course but they are in the minority. It is amazing the confidence that develops in some people after just a few years of living on a decent park in Spain. They have learnt to make do with a little Spanish, love the Spanish customs and are not phased at all living in the villages. Others will never sell because they love the security.

Why are mobile home parks such a good idea?

Simply put they enable people to enjoy a complete life style change with total security. Language is not an issue as the parks have staff to deal with that. Different culture is also not an issue as the parks themselves are run on exactly the same lines as mobile home parks in the UK. On the park only English is spoken. In the community center they have bingo, quiz nights and organised social events. If you have no social life now living in the UK or Ireland you are guaranteed one in Spain.

So what homework needs to be done before seriously thinking of going onto the next stage of buying a mobile home in Spain? Easy, above we have highlighted the reasons why living in a mobile home on a quality park is such a good idea but the lifestyle does not suit everyone and these keys facts have to be considered. 1/ Do you have enough income coming in every month that not only covers the monthly costs but allows sufficient to enable you to enjoy the new life style such as taking the coach trips to Gibraltar? 2/ Have you sufficient income coming in every month that allows for the Pound - Euro exchange rate swings? By this we mean are you still relaxed when the pound is equal to the Euro as well as being very happy once it is again around 1.29 to the pound.

Living in Spain is not just about living on the park. The local area is fantastic as well.

Living in Spain is no fun at all if you are worried about money so we do not recommend it if you need to find work. The short answer is there is none. It IS however a great place to live (and cheaper than in the UK) if you have sat and worked out everything correctly. There are many residents who have done exactly that and are enjoying life to the full.

The social life on offer on the parks is also a great system. You can get involved in as much or as little as you want to. Making friends is very easy and on parks such as La Vina and La Posada the entertainment is organised by the residents themselves.

Health is the next thing you need to consider. The health service here near Antequera is second to non but that is not always the case. Some parks in Spain are no where near a good hospital or medical center. If you are retired you can register to receive full medical facilities here in Spain which is great provided there are facilities in the area. There are many residents here that owe their lives to the fact they were living in Spain. Heart bypasses for example. and if you ask the few that have had that operation the question "are they glad they were in Spain for the operation?" they would still be singing the Spanish medical facilities praises twenty minutes later.

Now onto part of the lifestyle that very few consider before embarking on a new lifestyle. Can you live in a community? because that is exactly what the mobile home parks are. By community we are of course referring to the "residential style parks" as the people on the campsites change on a weekly basis during holiday times. Community spirit it seems is a double edged sword. Fantastic if you are the one who needs help. Equally fantastic if you enjoy helping others. Not so good if you resent a neighbour pointing out that the speed limit on the park is 20 kmh. Those who are comfortable living in a community really are relaxed and enjoying life. Those who are not comfortable living in a community tend to find fault with everything in life.

We hope what we have put on this page has made you think a little more about moving to Spain. It really is a great life for all those who are suited to the lifestyle. They enjoy every day to the full and have no regrets whatsoever. Ask any of them if they would move back to the UK and you will leave with "NEVER" ringing in your ears. If you are now thinking that the life style is suitable and your financial circumstances are such that living in Spain is an option then here is what we suggest. Take a short visit to confirm that the mobile home parks and area is as good as made out over the internet. Following a visit take a weeks holiday on the Costa del Sol and arrange to visit the parks and area again, after all if living in Spain is your goal then spending a week is a cost effective way of making sure it is perfect for you. We offer a service so that this option is always a second step.
