Located right in the centre of Andalucia. on the edge of a rich fertile plain is the market town of Antequera. It has been inhabited since prehistoric times and every generation including the Romans and the buildings within the town have been influenced as such. Some of the most important Roman Villa ruins have been discovered here and even today they are being excavated at the top end of the town near the college.

There are plenty of sights to be seen and it is known for its abundance of places of worship, more than anywhere else in Spain. It also has El Torcal which dates back 20 million years and is said to have been underwater at that time which you will find amazing considering how high up you are. You can see for miles.

The privileged situation of Antequera being in the centre of Andalucía had made it one of the most important towns between upper and lower Andalucía, Granada and Seville. It is a modern town these days complete with all the services and shopping facilities one would expect in a large town.

A quiet plaza to sit and relax in

The bus links with Malaga are excellent. Antequera hosts a variety of different restaurants and tapas bars and is good for shopping. There is a new shopping centre located at the edge of the city which has everything you need and a lot of residents use it for "the weekly shop".

There is also the Antequera Golf Hotel and golf course for those who can play golf or for those who fancy a quite drink in very pleasant surroundings.

In short, Antequera  is a very pleasant city and a warm welcome is given to their new neighbours and they have no difficulty with the fact that most of them can only speak English.

The old castle at the top of the town provides great views of mountains on one side and olive-covered hills on the other so even if one can not speak the views replace a thousand words. Stunning they are and more to the point they represent real Spain.
